The Institute of Masters of Wine has welcomed 18 new Masters of Wine (MWs) to its membership at the Institute’s Annual Awards Ceremony in London. The ceremony celebrates the induction of the new MWs to the Institute and recognises individual excellence in all aspects of the Masters of Wine (MW) examination. There are now 369 MWs based in 29 different countries.
The stars of the Swiss wine scene were announced at the Gala dinner held in Bern, attended by Switzerland's major players. Of the 78 short-listed wines from across the country, 39 were award winners, carrying off the first, second and third place prizes given for each of the 13 categories. This year, all of Switzerland's wine regions won awards, with canton Valais winning 6 of the competition's 13 categories. Les Frères Dutruy (Founex, VD) took the highly-coveted prize of Swiss Winery of the Year 2017.
Sierre, September 2, 2017: the 2017 edition of the VINEA Swiss Wine Fair closed its doors after three very successful days during which the many visitors discovered the fair's new features. The inclement weather did not dampen the spirits of the 6350 visitors who attended the 24th VINEA Swiss Wine Fair and the producers declared themselves satisfied, notably by the quality of the attendance and the presence of younger wine enthusiasts from across French-speaking Switzerland. The event's new features - in particular the Tasting Workshops – met with great success.
Every year, Swiss Wine Promotion in cooperation with the acclaimed Gault & Millau gastronomic guide, nominates the Swiss winemakers who produce exceptional wines and contribute to the promotion of Swiss wine quality in Switzerland and abroad.

The 10th edition of the Mondial du Merlot & Assemblages maintained its international profile with over 450 entries (an increase of 10%) from 22 countries. The only Great Gold medal was awarded to a Merlot from Ticino, with wines from France and Italy (the two countries with the most entries after Switzerland) also winning gold medals. These great wines will be presented to the public during the 2nd Festival of Merlots in Zurich.
Wednesday May 17th 2017 from 2.30 pm until 7:30 pm the award winning producers will proudly present their wines during this second edition of the "Festival des Merlots" which will take place at the Widder Hotel in Zürich.

The 2017 edition of the Mondial du Merlot et Assemblages is set for success, due to take place from April 21-23 in the heart of the Valais wine region in Sierre (Switzerland) with Paolo Basso, World's Best Sommelier 2013 as its president. Over 450 samples from 235 wineries will be judged by 25 international tasters, with the results revealed on May 17 in Zurich at the awards ceremony.
ProWein is the largest international wine fair for professionals currently taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany. Swiss Wine had carefully planned its presence there since Germany is the largest export market for Swiss wines.
“At Prowein we do not simply exhibit, it is the ultimate step of an annual cycle during which we literally walk the country in Germany" says Gilles Besse, president of Swiss Wine Promotion.
